The Vietnam’s Circular 30/2011/TT-BCT (Vietnam RoHS) legislation came into effect in 2012 and restricts the use of the following hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment: Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+), Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). It applies to nine categories: audio visual equipment, automatic dispensers, tools, (ICT) equipment, large household appliances, lighting/luminaires, small household appliances, sports equipment, and toys. All restricted materials are limited to 0.1% by weight except cadmium, which has a 0.01% limit. Product manufacturers and importers in Vietnam must maintain records of the management of toxic chemical content in electrical equipment and disclose information on hazardous substances limit content in products by electronic means or by the marking and labelling of packaging.
